Gabonese footballer Mario Lemina hit with the UK's biggest ever speeding fine

Gabonese footballer Mario Lemina hit with the UK
Football star, Mario Lemina, who plays as a central midfielder for English club Southampton has received the UK's biggest-ever speeding fine and been banned from driving for a year.
The 25-year-old was hit with the £96,000 fine on Monday after failing to tell police on three occasions whether it was him behind the wheel when his Mercedes-AMG GLA45 was clocked for speeding, according to Mail Online.
The Sun reported that the Gabon international claimed that he did not know whether it was his brother or cousin were behind the wheel of his £50,000 Mercedes-AMG GLA45. But he admitted three counts of failing to notify police after ignoring their letters.
Lemina received 18 points on top of the 21 he already had on his non-UK licence, adding up to a year's driving ban.
According to the report, the fine of £96,000 is three times his weekly salary at the Premier League club, but it could have risen to £144,000 had he denied he was driving at the time.
Lemina did not appear at Aldershot magistrates' court to receive his punishment but the £96,000 fine exceeded the £86,000 handed to television star Ant McPartlin for drink-driving back in April.
Lemina's fine is understood to be the biggest to date for a UK motoring offence.
