The Consulate General of Nigeria in Johannesburg, South Africa, has called for calm over reports of recent violent killings of Nigerian nationals in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province.
The Consulate in a statement on Monday, October17, 2022, said the killings happened in the last three weeks.
The statement described the gruesome killings as unnecessary, condemnable and utterly callous.
"The Consulate General is saddened by these developments and hereby extends its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims," the statement read.
"While the Mission is confident that the South African Police Service (SAPS) will conduct full and thorough investigations into the murders, it is pertinent to enjoin all Nigerians residing in KwaZulu-Natal Province to remain calm, security conscious and law-abiding,
"To this end, it's advised that Nigerians should endeavour to avoid potential flash points and immediately report any threat to life and property to the Police,"
