Excitement filled the air on Monday as winners of various contests at the 2022 Ojude Oba festival in Ijebu ode, Ogun State, received cash prizes and valuable items courtesy of festival, Globacom.
The festival featured various competitions which added to the fun and excitement of the annual event.
Regberegbe competition was one of the key features of Globacom’s sponsorship of the festival. At the end of the contest, the Egbe Obayori Okunrin Asiwaju came first as the best dressed age grade, while Egbe Tobalase Okunrin and Egbe Bobamayegun emerged first and second runners-up in the male category. They were rewarded with N500,000, N300,000 and N200,000 cash prizes respectively. In the female category, Egbe Bobamayegun Obinrin Asiwaju came first with Egbe Arobayo Obinrin and Egbe Tobalase Obinrin emerging runners up. They won the same amounts as their male counterparts.
There was also the Balogun contest where Balogun Kuku came first and won N500,000. They were adjudged the best in skills and dexterity on their horses. The second position and the sum of N300,000 went to Balogun Odunuga while Balogun Gamugasa came third and were rewarded with N200,000.
Five tricycles (Keke) were also driven away by 5 lucky Glo subscribers, while 10 won television sets and 10 others grinding machines. These were winners that emerged from the special festival promotion packaged by Globacom.
Winners of the Ojude Oba Beauty Pageant were not left out. 19-year-old student of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Oluwafunmilade Osotekun, was crowned Miss Ojude Oba and was rewarded with N150,000 cash prize and branded materials. The second place went to 23-year-old student of the Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese Ijebu, Christiana Adenike Ogunwusi who went home with N100,000, while 23-year-old beautician, Ogunsanwo Nafisat Abisola, came third, winning N50,000.
The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, commended the company for hosting a spectacular event. He observed that Globacom had sponsored Ojude Oba for the past 16 years, adding that the company’s contributions had raised the standard of the festival and made it a tourist destination.
