The world's second-tallest building, a 118 storey skyscraper 2,227ft tall is now complete

The Malaysian government has now unveiled the world's second-tallest building.

The new Merdeka 118 skyscraper, located in Kuala Lumpur, is set to open officially by the end of 2022 and has replaced the 2,073ft- (632m) high Shanghai Tower as the world's second-tallest tower.

When it opens, Merdeka 118, standing at 2,227ft tall will feature an observation deck, a Park Hyatt hotel, and rentable office spaces .

The building, second only to Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in terms of height has now reached its maximum height and it's a sight to behold, as pictures show.

With the completion of the spire at its tip the skyscraper is a staggering 2,227ft (678.9m) tall meaning it's more than double the height of London's Shard, which is 1,017ft (310m) high.

Merdeka 118, which is officially classed as a ‘megatall’ skyscraper, was designed to overlook a significant historical landmark in Kuala Lumpur – Stadium Merdeka, the site of the declaration of independence of the country in 1957.

The sleek exterior of the tower was designed by the Australian firm Fender Katsalidis Architects, and is made up of triangular glass panels, inspired by shapes 'found in traditional Malaysian arts and crafts'.
