Downing told me where Rooney would place his penalty, reveals Mejias

Reports Goal
Middlesbrough goalkeeper Tomas Mejias has revealed that Stewart Downing told him where Wayne Rooney would place his penalty during the League Cup shootout with Manchester United.
The Championship side held their Premier League counterparts to a 0-0 draw over 120 minutes at Old Trafford before triumphing on spot kicks.
Mejias, who joined Boro along with manager Aitor Karanka from Real Madrid, denied both Rooney and Ashley Young in the shootout - and later revealed he received some advice from their former England team-mate Downing.
“Honestly, I didn't study how they usually shoot,” the Spaniard told Goal. “We had practiced [penalties] this week with [goalkeeping coach] Leo Percovich because we knew we could reach that point. But I had not studied.
