We sell adulterated water to banks- suspects confess

A five-man syndicate that specialize in selling adulterated water to banks and other companies in Lagos have been arrested by men of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad. A statement by the police states that the suspects identified as Chukwuma Uzor, (48) and Ofonime Ikpe (44) and three of their accomplices were arrested at 3, Adesola Street, Ago-Palace Way, Okota in Lagos on Thursday October 22nd following a tip-off.
One of the suspects, Chukwuma Uzor, had worked with a registered water dispensing company but stopped working and decided to connive with some other men to start up a quack water bottling company using his former boss's brand name. His former boss, Sunday Nnaduaga, who gave the police the tip-off said:

"I just noticed that he just stopped coming to office and efforts to reach him via his mobile phones proved abortive as all his lines were switched off. Sometime ago, a friend of mine hinted me that he saw him distributing dispensable water to our customers mostly banks and other big companies in Lagos. Since that day I started to keep tab on him until I caught him red-handed selling produced water with several registered names in an unkempt environment. Afterwards, I hinted RRS team on patrol which led to the arrest of the two suspects".
He added that this criminal act has greatly affected his water business because customers have seized to come. While confessing to the crime, one of the prime suspects, Chukwuma, who hailed from Mbaise Local Government in Imo State, said
I decided to use the brand name because it has a ready-made market. We had many customers particularly new generation banks that patronize us. Before now, I had worked as a marketer for him but he was paying me poorly despite all the huge sales I made for him. And, the only way to make my own sales was to use his brand name which is acceptable to many people". he stated.
His accomplice, Ofonime Ikpe, who also adulterated another brand of table water, said that he only accommodated him to produce the water in his factory.
"I made a big mistake for allowing him to be producing the water in my factory. I regret aiding and abetting him in committing this heinous crime. He paid me just token from profit he made from the sales".
The Commander of RRS, ACP Olatunji Disu revealed that the suspects were not only adulterating popular brands, they were also pouring untreated water in jars and sachets in an unwholesome manner as well as selling them to various companies such as banks and unsuspecting members of the public.
Hundreds of assorted brands of empty dispensable jars were among the items recovered from them.
The two suspects and other co-workers have been transferred to the State Investigation and Intelligent Bureau in Ikeja for further questioning and investigation.

Cross River government suspends permanent secretary over suspension of morning devotion in schools

The Cross River State government has indefinitely suspended the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Education Anne Odey, who last week released a statement suspending all forms of morning devotion in schools across the country.
The State Security Adviser (SSA) to Governor Ben Ayade, Jude Ngaji who made this known to newsmen yesterday in Calabar, explained that indeed the state police commissioner, Henry Fadairo, had contacted the state ministry of Education about a possible attack by Boko haram members during early morning and afternoon devotions in various schools.

Ngaji said the permanent secretary unilaterally took the decision of suspending the age long practice of morning devotions in the state, without consulting the state governor.

"The governor has directed that the permanent secretary be suspended indefinitely while the ban on suspension of devotion has been lifted immediately. It is true that police got intelligence information that Boko Haram is planning to bomb schools during morning devotions and therefore directed authorities in the Ministry of Education to act fast.
But the permanent secretary did not bother to refer to the governor or call for stakeholders’ meeting to that effect.
So, the governor feels pained that the permanent secretary got such sensitive information without seeking for his advice and went ahead to issue directive suspending morning devotions in schools," he said.
He added that the governor is a strong believer in God and will not do anything that will prevent people from worshiping God.

“Honestly, I didn't study how they usually shoot,” the Spaniard told Goal. “We had practiced [penalties] this week with [goalkeeping coach] Leo Percovich because we knew we could reach that point. But I had not studied.

Maldives Vice-President arrested, indicted for high treason in an alleged plot to assasinate the president

Maldives Vice-President Ahmed Adeev has been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate the President, Abdulla Yameen Gayoom.

According to the Police spokesman Ismail Ali, Ahmed Adeeb was arrested today Saturday Oct. 24th at the airport when he returned from an official visit to China, on suspicion of links to a blast on the presidential boat last month.

The September 28 explosion took place aboard the boat when President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and his wife were returning to the capital from the airport after a hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
The president was unhurt, but his wife and and a number of others were injured when the device went off under a seat normally - but not in this instance - occupied by Mr Yameen.

Soon after the blast, speculation began to grow that Mr Adeeb was involved, reports say. Under the Maldivian constitution, the vice-president succeeds the president if he dies, is incapacitated or resigns.

Officials described the attack as an assassination attempt and had arrested two senior police officers - a week after the president fired his defence minister.

Home Minister Naseer said Mr Adeeb was being held on a prison island.

Falcao's grandmother criticises Mourinho & Van Gaal

Radamel Falcao’s grandmother believes the striker has not been given enough playing time at Chelsea and feels Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have not been “explicit” with him.

The 29-year-old scored only four goals in 29 appearances during his season-long loan spell at Manchester United last season, and has played just 192 minutes in the Premier League following his move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

When asked if she could explain Falcao’s inability to replicate the performances he showed before his cruciate ligament injury in January 2014, Dona Denis King Garcia told El Universal: “I do not understand what happened.

"After the injury he suffered last year before the World Cup he has tried to return and has played some good matches; but I also think the coaches he has worked with have not been explicit with him.

“You have to show confidence in him because that is the only way he can return to what he used to be [before his injury].

The Portugal international racked up his latest milestone with a vicious strike from just outside the box, powering the ball into the far corner and beyond the reach of the goalkeeper.
The most remarkable thing about Ronaldo's achievement is that he surprassed Raul's tally in just 310 appearances in all competitions.

Raheem Sterling scores Hat-trick as Manchester City win 5 - 1 against Bournemouth

Raheem Sterling scored his first professional hat-trick as Manchester City ran out 5-1 winners against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium, and it came at just the right time.

Sterling's place on the left of City's attack had looked under threat before the international break thanks to a few ineffectual performances, but he's come back with a bang.

"I think it was very important for Raheem to score in this game three goals," Manuel Pellegrini said afterwards. "It is important for him to improve his finishing. I think he did that today. I don’t think that Raheem is a striker like Kun [Aguero] or like Bony. He is an offensive player who must improve his finishing, and I think this year, and I said when he arrived here, he must improve. He is improving and I’m sure that this season he will score more goals than the other seasons that he played for Liverpool."

Having netted for England, he took just seven minutes to open the scoring here with a close-range tap in. His second, with the score at 2-1 after Glenn Murray replied to Wilfried Bony's first goal of the season, was the best of the lot.

Thiago Silva's Brazil career could be over - Romario

Reports Goal
Thiago Silva does not have the right character to represent Brazil, according to former striker Romario.
The centre-back, who was pictured separated from his team-mates and in tears during the penalty shoot-out against Chile in the last-16 at World Cup 2014, was replaced by Neymar as captain of the national team when Dunga took the helm last year.
Having been drafted back into the starting line-up for Copa America 2015, Thiago Silva conceded a penalty for handball in the quarter-final clash with Paraguay that ended in Brazil's elimination.
And Romario, who won two Copa America titles and the 1994 World Cup with Brazil, says the defender's international career is finished.
"It's over for him, the train has left the station," he said in an interview with L'Equipe.

US considers visa ban, financial sanctions against Alison-Madueke, others

According to a report by Wall Street Journal, the US is considering a visa ban and financial ban on Nigeria's former Petroleum Minister Alison-Madueke following alleged bribery, corruption and laundering money through British and U.S. banks. Read the report below

American officials have also considered a visa ban or financial sanctions against Mrs. Alison-Madueke and a dozen of her associates, oil officials and politicians, U.S. officials said. Washington is scrutinizing whether her associates laundered money in the U.S., the U.K. and other countries, the officials said.
Both the State Department and the U.K.’s National Crime Agency declined to comment on their investigations: “We continue to work with Nigeria to fight corruption,” a State Department official said.
Together, the litany of legal actions—conducted on three continents— point to a swift but uncertain precedent for Africa’s struggle against corruption.
“The real issue is the signaling effect: that holding public office in Nigeria should not be a license to plunder,” said Bismarck Rewane, managing director of Lagos research firm Financial Derivatives Co. “It’s working. The number of bribes I’m being asked for has dropped.”

For the better part of a decade, graft fighters in Africa, having lost faith in their own courts, have asked judges in Europe and America to wage their battles.

Segun Arinze should be in jail – Emeka Ike

Reports punchng

The war between iconic actors Segun Arinze and Emeka Ike seems to have no end in sight. In a recent interview, Arinze said Ike should stop embarrassing the Actors Guild of Nigeria by parading himself as its president.
Arinze said, “He should grow up. As far as I am concerned, Ibinabo Fiberesima is the bonafide president. Even in the recent judgement that came out recently telling us to return to the status quo, what does it mean? We were told to go back to the way we were. There was no time Emeka Ike was pronounced the president of AGN. Let him bring out the copy of the judgement and show us if he is man enough. He should wake up and stop embarrassing the guild.”
These words did not go down well with Ike who believes Segun Arinze “is an illiterate who should have been in jail.”
“I heard Segun Arinze was interviewed and he said so many things about me and nobody asked me for my own side. I don’t think it was a balanced report. Segun Arinze did not say anything meaningful, he was just cursing himself. That is not how to handle legal matters. In legal matters, we take things from the law’s point of view. Segun that is talking to the journalist is supposed to be behind bars because he committed a crime that should have sent him to jail. There was an order that he violated by bringing in Ibinabo as the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. I have been saying this since. That is why Ibinabo’s tenure was called ‘contentious.’

Liverpool Sack Brendan Rodgers

Reports Goal
Liverpool have sacked Brendan Rodgers as manager.
The 42-year-old, who joined Anfield in 2012, nearly guided Liverpool to the Premier League title in his second season at the club but eventually finished two points behind champions Manchester City.
Luis Suarez's departure and Daniel Sturridge's injury problems contributed to Liverpool's inconsistent form as they finished in sixth place last term, while Rodgers has now left Anfield with the team registering just three wins from their opening eight games.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, is the early frontrunner to replace Rodgers, while Carlo Ancelotti is also being considered.

Mourinho: I'm the best manager Chelsea has ever had

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reacted to questions regarding his future by insisting that if the club sack him, they will be sacking the greatest manager the club has ever had.

The defeat follows on from Tuesday's 2-1 loss to Porto in the Champions League and leaves the Blues in 16th place in the Premier League table, a distant 10 points behind leaders Manchester City.
"If the club wants to sack me they have to sack me because I am not running away from my responsibility, my team," he told Sky Sports after the game.
