Teen couple suspended in South Africa after marriage proposal at their high school, engagement ring confiscated

Two South African high school students have been suspended, after their marriage proposal on the school grounds which was captured on video went viral.
18-year-old Mduduzi Tlou proposed to his 16-year-old girlfriend (whose name is withheld because she is underage) in front of cheering fellow students at Tholulwazi Secondary School in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni,  last week, with the video going viral on social media.

Few hours after their engagement, the school confiscated the R2000 ring Tlou had bought for his girlfriend and suspended both pupils after they appeared before a school disciplinary hearing on Wednesday.
Speaking to the Tlou Sowetan, Tlou said they had been dating for eight months. He said he wanted to marry her because she had "changed" his life.

"I love her because when I met her, I was an alcoholic and she had changed all of that."
The Grade 11 pupil said marriage, however, was not on the cards for another two years.
"I paid R2000 for the ring. I bought it from Sterns. I had saved money for it," Tlou said.
He said he did not know the proposal was against school policy.
"I was surprised on September 18 just after lunch when they called us into the principal's office, confiscated the ring and asked us to bring our parents the next day."

Tlou said he was worried that he was missing out on learning while on suspension. He has already missed four class tests. He wants to finish his studies, find a job and marry his sweetheart.

The girlfriend said she, too, was worried that she was missing out on her schooling.
"When they took my ring at school, I wanted to cry. He asked me to marry him and make him the happiest man on earth. We are not going to get married now. We will get married after we both finish school," she said.
The couple's parents said they were elated by the proposal, however, they were worried by the pupils' suspension. Tlou's grandfather Jacob Xaba said:
"Why is this relationship being turned into a crime? He must marry her. I will even give him my savings for lobola."
The girl's mother, Nomsa, said:
"I am happy with the step these children are taking. Mduduzi is a good boy. I can't think of a better son-in-law."
Gauteng education spokesman Steve Mabona said the pupils acted indecently by kissing and touching in front of their schoolmates.
"Surely such behaviour will not be tolerated in our schooling environment. A school is an institution of learning . The disciplinary process by the SGB . will pave a way forward. The pupils would be given a chance to write the tests missed, he said.

US conducts Airstrikes in Libya for the first time under Donald Trump, killing 17 ISIS soldiers

US conducts Airstrikes in Libya for the first time under Donald Trump, killing 17 ISIS soldiers
For the first time since Donald Trump's inauguration as U.S President, the United States military conducted airstrikes in Libya on Friday night, the Pentagon announced Saturday.
The strikes coordinated by unmanned aircraft  and signed off by Donald Trump last week, killed 17 Islamic States militants and destroyed three vehicles at the camp, located about 150 miles southeast of Sirte, the US Africa Command which coordinates US troops in the region said.
The number of ISIS terrorists and their cells within Libya had reduced significantly during the last two years following constant US military intervention in the area, but the last few months, terrorists had started having meetings and forming aggregates as a result of  the Libyan government's instability.
"In coordination with Libya's Government of National Accord and aligned forces, U.S. forces conducted six precision airstrikes in Libya against an ISIS desert camp on Friday,"
"The camp was used by ISIS to move fighters in and out of the country; stockpile weapons and equipment; and to plot and conduct attacks, ISIS operatives in Libya have been connected to multiple attacks across Europe."  The US Africa Command said in a later statement.
"The United States will track and hunt these terrorists, degrade their capabilities and disrupt their planning and operations by all appropriate, lawful, and proportional means, including precision strikes," Africa Command's later statement added.
The last US airstrike against Libyan ISIS operatives was carried out on January 19, the day before Trump was inaugurated.
ISIS took over Sirte in early 2015, turning it into its most important base outside the Middle East and attracting large numbers of foreign Daesh fighters to the city. The  terrorist group imposed its rule on residents and extended its control along about 155 miles (250 km) of Libya’s Mediterranean coastline.
But it struggled to keep a footing elsewhere in Libya and by last December was forced out of Sirte after a six-month campaign led by troops from the western city of Misrata and backed by US air strikes.

Ambode approves the reconstruction of Onikan Stadium

Ambode approves the reconstruction of Onikan Stadium
Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has approved the rehabilitation and upgrade of the 5,000 capacity Onikan Stadium, near Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos Island, in order to make it meet the expectations of a 21st Century sporting facility which is also in line with the new Onikan-Marina Regeneration plan.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, the state government said the upgrade demonstrates its commitment to use sports as a potent tool for development and job creation; adding that the stadium, which is the oldest in Nigeria, was originally built in 1930 but was last renovated in the 1980s.

“The upgrading of the stadium will rekindle the interest of football fans in local league, as well as promote sports tourism, take sports to greater heights and encourage youth activities,” he said.

He further stated that rehabilitation works would also be done on external and internal walls, electrical and mechanical installations; paved driveways, perimeter fence; borehole and water reticulation as well as external electricity lighting and landscaping amongst others.

Onikan Stadium has, over the years, served as a multi-purpose stadium used for many social and political activities apart from hosting of football matches but its fortunes nosedived in the past few years due to inadequate funding and maintenance.

He added that the reconstruction and upgrade of the stadium would complement the adjoining JK Randle Arts Centre, the proposed Lagos Museum, the Lagos History Centre as well as the Lagos Heritage Centre which are all tourism-inspired projects.

England coach who made racist jibe about ebola at Eniola Aluko and her family in Nigeria, sacked for 'inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour'

England women’s manager, Mark Sampson, who made a racist jibe about Ebola at Eniola Aluko and her family in Nigeria, has been sacked because of inappropriate relationships with female players he coached at Bristol Academy.
Recall that last month, Eniola Aluko, the elder sister of Nigeria striker Sone Aluko accused England women’s head coach Mark Sampson of subjecting herself and her Nigerian family to a ‘racist’ jibe about the Ebola virus.
The claims follow allegations in May 2016 that she was bullied by Sampson and that he made a remark with ‘racial connotations’ to another mixed-race player. But Mr. Sampson and the Football Association denied Miss Aluko’s accusations.
Eniola Aluko who plays for Chelsea Ladies was later dropped from the England squad after the allegations came to light.
FA chief executive Martin Glenn in a statement on Wednesday confirmed that the coach has been sacked from his job after receiving the full report into accusations against Sampson in March 2014 of inappropriate relationships with more than one female player at Bristol Academy.
Glenn also added in the statement that the former Bristol Academy coach is being investigated for the racist jibe about Ebola at Eniola Aluko and her family in Nigeria.
Read the full FA statement below..
The Football Association can confirm that Mark Sampson's contract as England Women's Head Coach has been terminated with immediate effect.
Prior to taking charge of the national team in December 2013, Mark was manager of Bristol Academy. In 2014, safeguarding allegations were made against him about his time with Bristol. The safeguarding assessment was that he did not pose a risk working in the game.
However, the full report of that investigation was only brought to the attention of the current FA leadership last week and it is our judgement that it revealed clear evidence of inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour by a coach. It is on this basis that we have acted quickly to agree a termination of Mark's contract.
In respect of investigations into specific allegations made by Eniola Aluko in 2016, The FA stands by the findings of the independent barrister Katherine Newton's investigation.
Mark Sampson has denied all of the accusations put to him and no evidence of wrong-doing was found. We will continue to support the independent investigation as it reviews the recent evidence presented to it and publish any new findings and recommendations.

EFCC arrests Gombe State SEMA Secretary over alleged diversion of IDP materials

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Secretary, Dr Danlami Rukuje, over alleged diversion of materials meant for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

According to reports, Rukuje was arrested following a tip-off received by the Intelligence and Special Operations Section (ISOS) of the commission and the arrest was carried out by the EFCC officials at the Gombe Zonal Office on Wednesday.

'The materials, which include cans of paints and bags of cement meant as building materials donated to the state by the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiatives (PCNI) never made it to the IDP camps. Investigations revealed that they were, instead, diverted to other areas including markets for sale. A team of operatives acting on the information, immediately swung into action and located shops where the materials were being sold. The Gombe State Fertiliser Grinding Plant, where some of the materials were kept, was also raided. A storekeeper at the state’s Emergency Agency, Isa Garba, was subsequently arrested. Further investigations led to the arrest of a staff of the state’s Fertiliser Grinding Plant, Mu’azu Suleman. The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded', the commission said.

M5 crash horror leaves four dead and woman and her two kids fighting for their lives after lorry ploughs into oncoming traffic

A mother and her two children are fighting for their lives and their father is among the four people who died after a lorry smashed through the central reservation on the M5 in south Gloucestshire, England.
Officers said a lorry travelling southbound towards Bristol on Saturday afternoon hit at least two vehicles heading the opposite way near Almondsbury in south Gloucestershire just before 2.30pm. Motorists at the scene quickly went to the aid of crash victims to pull them from burning cars and administer first aid to the injured.
One witness told Mail Online that he pulled an unconscious woman from a badly mangled vehicle while two men at the scene rescued screaming children, believed to be aged seven and nine.
The witness who asked not to be named told Mail Online: "The father was dead, I crawled into the car and checked his pulse. I pulled the woman, who I believe is a doctor, out of the car and she was given two pints of blood on the side of the road before she was taken to hospital. The woman and the children are in a critical condition."
The witness, who was one of the first people at the scene, had been driving "four or five vehicles" behind the silver car in which three people and a dog are believed to have died.
"It was like watching a video of a car explosion in Iraq. There was a loud bang and suddenly there were car parts and dust flying everywhere."
The bang was from the blown tyres of a lorry which then collided with a black car and both the car and the lorry then careened over the central reservation and into the northbound carriageway where they collided with a silver vehicle, according to the witness. He said that paramedics happened to passing and stopped at the scene.
"The paramedics were amazing, the lorry driver's legs were badly trapped in the cab of his lorry but they got him out and he walked away while his wife was brought away, alive but on a stretcher."
The lorry driver survived and was taken to hospital to be checked over, which police said was as a precaution. The witness said that the scene was truly shocking and he is so scarred by the accident that he might have to stop working.
"I am affected to the point that I might quit my job. I can understand adults dying but to see children injured and screaming, knowing they had lost their father, it's awful."
Cardiologist Dr Amer Hamed was in a car seconds behind the crash when it happened.  He, along with a passing GP, was one of the first at the scene to help an injured woman who was in one of the cars.
Dr Hamed told the BBC: "There was a lorry involved and at least two other cars. One was absolutely destroyed and another had flipped over. People are helping as much as they can. Several people offered us water and one man came out of his car to give food. We're going to be stuck here for a few hours yet."

Security guard of cosmetic company admits to ejaculating in tanks of face cream to "avenge himself against women”

A former security guard in a Detroit laboratory has confessed to ejaculating in the sanitized tanks used to produce hydrating face cream on more than 500 occasions over the last three years.
59-year old Larry Gordon was arrested today by officers of Detroit Police Department after he was caught on tape and confessed his actions to his employer.
Mr. Gordon spent the last seven years working as a night watch at a lab owned by American Cosmetic Chemicals (ACC), a subcontractor for several companies including Cover Girl, Neutrogena, and Yves Rocher.
He was recently caught by a video camera while masturbating in the cream tanks and was confronted by his employer.
He admitted that he was depressed since he got divorced three years ago and that had ejaculated in the reservoirs at least 500 times since then to “avenge himself against women”.
Faced with the gravity of his confession, the board of directors of the ACC immediately decided to suspend Mr. Gordon from his job and contact the police.
The DPD led a rapid investigation and arrested Larry Gordon this morning under five charges of sexual assault, and some police sources say that many more charges could be filed over the next few days.
It remains unclear at the moment which brands or products were contaminated by Mr. Gordon’s sperm, but an ACC spokesman tried to reassure the public by stating that the semen was only present in small quantities and represented no health hazard.
The company says an investigation is underway to determine exactly which products were affected, but it admitted that between 500,000 and 3,000,000 customers may have bought contaminated cosmetics.
Mr. Gordon’s lawyer, Ben Tillerman, says his client suffers from serious mental problems and has demanded a psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is fit to stand a trial.
The evaluation will take place as soon as the police investigation is completed and should take a few days, which means Mr. Gordon should make his first appearance in court next week.

SARS operatives responsible for the series of kidnappings and armed robbery attacks in Rivers- Governor Nyesom Wike alleges

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared that most of the kidnapping and armed robbery taking place in the state are perpetrated by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The governor stated that the embattled Rivers State Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) Commander, Mr Akin Fakorede and his operatives have been indicted by an official Police Signal, which indicated that they are responsible for the series of kidnapping and deadly robbery across the state.
Addressing journalists at the Government House Port Harcourt today, Governor Wike stated that the SARS Commander was planted in the state to sabotage the security architecture of the state and create an atmosphere of fear. He said that criminal activities of Mr Fakorede were uncovered by the Inspector General of Police X Squad Abuja deployed to the state after the squad busted the attempted kidnap of one Mr Azumana Ifeanyi on September 11, 2017 at the GRA, Port Harcourt.
The Official Police Signal with the title: "Police Wireless Message " and Reference Number DT0: 121030/09/2017 ---INGENPOL-X-FHQ ABUJA TO-INGENPOL SEC ABUJA, noted that the squad received a distress call on the kidnap of Mr Ifeanyi and immediately swung into action. According to the signal, they met the three SARS operatives robbing and a gun duel ensued. The operatives had taken Mr Ifeanyi to a Fidelity Bank ATM where they compelled him to withdraw N500,000 as ransom.
One of the SARS Operatives was killed, while Inspector Justice Nyeche who led the IGP team was injured.
Governor Wike said: "Most of the kidnapping and armed robbery taking place in this state are done by men of SARS. They use exhibit vehicles to operate. As the Chief Security Officer of the state, you complain, but they choose to play politics with crime. They fight crime in some state, but they refuse to fight crime in Rivers State. We are done with the elections, but they are using SARS to create insecurity in the state. As I speak with you, they will deny. But the SARS Operative who was killed was amongst those who raided the Rivers East Senatorial District Collation Centre. This man can be identified in the video as one of those who invaded the collation centre with Fakorede."
The governor stated that the deliberate acts of violence being perpetrated by the Police have been planned as part of the rigging process for 2019.
"I have never seen a country where they politicise crime. It is very obvious that they want to give the impression that Rivers State is unsafe. They want to instil fear preparatory to declaring during the elections that they are so much killing", he said.
He added: "Authorities deliberately trying to destroy a whole state and you want the people to be happy. I will no longer write. Now is the time to take my case to the public, for the whole world to know what is happening ".
The governor said that his administration has invested more than any other in security logistics, yet the Police work against the state. It will be recalled that the embattled Rivers State SARs Commander, Mr Akin Fakorede was caught on video invading the Rivers East Senatorial District Collation Centre on December 12, 2016.

8 dead, gunman killed at Dallas football watch party in Texas

8 people were shot dead on Sunday night when a gunman with multiple weapons barged into his ex-wife's home and went on a shooting spree.
A Texas football watch party had been underway at the single-family home off Spring Creek Parkway in Plano, less than 20 minutes from Dallas, around 8 p.m. when the shooter opened fire inside the party. Two people were wounded, and 7 were killed before authorities arrived and shot the gunman dead.
Authorities responded to the home in the 1700 block of West Spring Creek Parkway, near Custer Road, at 8:04 p.m. after multiple gunshots was reported. An officer heard shots upon arrival. He entered the home and confronted the gunman before fatally shooting him.
The two wounded victims were transported to the hospital where one of them later died. Of the nine shooting victims, only one survived. According to witnesses, a man arrived at the house where a group was watching the Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Giants game. He had an argument with a woman outside before drawing an automatic weapon and opening fire.
"I seen a man argue with a woman. They were standing outside arguing. The woman was trying to go back in and as she was going back in the house you seen the man pull out his gun and starting just releasing. He just started letting them go. It was an automatic. You could hear it go off multiple times, you could hear it just ring off," a witness told a Fox News reporter.
"It sounded like an argument between a woman and a man and it got really loud…next thing you know all you heard was multiple rounds just going off," Crystal Sugg, who works nearby, told Fox 4.
Police said at a news conference on Monday they have not identified all of the victims, but said they were all adult men and women. Debbie Lane, the mother of the woman who lived in the home, said the gunman was her former son-in-law who killed her daughter, Meredith Lane. The mother said the couple recently got divorced after six years of marriage and the man used to own the home where the shooting happened.
"She was a cook, and a quite fine one, and she loved hosting friends and families," Lane told WFAA. "This was her first opportunity to do it after the divorce and he didn’t take it well."
Lane continued: "I really wish we knew who the other victims were. They were all close dear friends. We don’t know".

Al-Qadisiyah FC of Saudi Arabia have allowed their Ivorian player Hervé Guy to leave the club for treatment after doctors advised them against using the midfielder due to a medical issue with his heart.
The club's director, Ghazi Aseri  says, 'doctors warned us not to use Herve in matches after medical examinations showed he has a myocardium problem. We allowed him to travel out of the country for more examinations'.
The 33-year-old Guy joined Al-Qadisiyah earlier this year after four years with Moroccan side Ittihad Tanger.  He was a member of Ivory Coast's Under 20 World Cup squad in 2003, and began his club career with Bastia in France followed by a move to Ivorian side Stella Club d'Adjamé.
His club says they will reinforce their squad but insist they will continue to support Herve Guy in the meantime.  "We will add another player to our squad as Herve will need time to recover. We will not fire him from the squad, and we will support him and wish him a quick recovery," Ghazi Aseri said.

Lagos State to commence shutdown of all illegal Education Centres from September 11

Lagos State Government, through the Agency for Mass Education, has announced plans to commence shutdown of all unregistered Tutorial and Continuing Education Centres (CECs) in the State effective from Monday, September 11, 2017.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh said the closure is necessitated by the refusal of some operators of Tutorial and Continuing Education Centres to comply with the State’s directive to register their Centres and pay up their annual dues after several notices from the State.

Bank-Olemoh said the government suspended an earlier clampdown on such Tutorial and Continuing Education Centres after a closed door meeting with critical stakeholders in the sector on Monday, September 26, 2016.

According to him, the stakeholders agreed to cooperate with the State in its pursuit of standardizing the educational sector in line with international best practices, while pledging their commitment to improving the quality of Education in the State by maintaining high-level standards and professionalism.  He revealed that failure of the tutorial and continuing education centres to comply with government’s directive after several follow up engagements has led to the resolve to commence the clamp down exercise, through the Agency for Mass Education, in line with Edict No 2, Section 4.3 of 1991 that mandates the Agency to control the activities of all Tutorial and Continuing Education Centres in the State.

Bank-Olemoh stated that “Lagos residents enrol in these tutorial centres and as government; we must ensure that quality service is delivered to our people. We must set standards and enforce it.”  The statement, however, urged operators of Tutorial and Continuing Education Centres across the State to get registered with the Agency for Mass Education and comply with all laid down regulations, including payment of stipulated fees, to avoid being shut down.
