5 month old infant starves to death days after parents die of Heroin overdose

A 5-month-old baby girl may have been left alone for at least four days, starving and dehydrated, before dying, after her parents 19-year-old mother, Chelsea Cardaro and her father, Jason Chambers, 27, fatally overdosed on heroin.
The small body of the infant Summer Chambers was discovered Thursday inside a bassinet in the upstairs bedroom of a Johnstown, Pennsylvania, home, after a family friend who hadn't heard from the couple for over a week paid them a visit.

The body of the infant's mum was found in a neighboring bathroom while that of her father's was found lifeless on the first floor.
Local pathologists estimated Summer’s parents may have been a week before they were found.

According to Cambria County District Attorney Kelly Callihan, authorities believe the mother and father died almost simultaneously.
Callihan said:

“It’s so sad and really illustrates just how bad the heroin epidemic is, not only here but across the country”. “Had they not died within minutes of each other, we believe one would have called 911 for help for the other.”

Callihan says, adding:

“The pathologists said a child can live a couple of days without food or milk. She was only 5 months old, so she was on her back … she had no way to move from that bassinet.” “This was a picture in my mind I’d rather forget,” Callihan says. 

Last Friday, officials confirmed that Summer succumbed to dehydration and starvation days after her parenst died of heroin overdose.

Callihan said a friend was called to check on Chambers and Cardaro when the couple, who had recently moved to Pennsylvania from New York, failed to show up for planned holiday festivities.
Callihan said:

“Neighbors didn’t think it was out of the ordinary that they didn’t see them around, because they were traveling to New York for Christmas”. “Someone called one of their friends, who opened a window and climbed inside.” The friend found all three bodies and immediately called 911. 

Callihan added that  police recovered “evidence of drug use and heroin” from the couples’ home and believes the two “were using a substance that was obviously laced with something.” Tests are being performed on the heroin that was removed from the residence to determine if other chemicals were present, she says.
This isn't the first time the couple had overdosed. Last month, Chambers overdosed on heroin and responding police and EMS technicians were able to revive him using Narcan, a heroin overdose antidote.

State child welfare authorities were contacted after Chambers overdosed, Callihan says. Officials visited the home on Dec. 7 and “felt everything was appropriate,” so no action was 'needed' according to the officials. Especially after Cardaro “denied being a drug user.”

A couple from Soroti District in the Eastern Region of Uganda held a modest wedding with a budget of USh300, 000 (KSh8, 500) and walked nearly one  kilometer to the wedding venue.


It is not clear why they decided to walk instead of using a vehicle. Could it be because of insufficient fund?  However, the action has attracted mixed reactions on social media, with many commending their 'humility' and others wondering why anyone would choose to walk on one of the most important days of their life.

Iconic singer George Michael dies at age 53 on Christmas Day

Singer George Michael passed has died. He reportedly died 'peacefully' at his home in Oxfordshire England yesterday December 25th. He was just 53. A rep for the pop star says,

"It its with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period.The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage.'

Details surrounding his death haven't been released but he had had previously battled drug and alcohol addiction.

Walt Disney Studios becomes first studio to make $7 billion at box office in one year following 'Rogue one' success

Following the huge opening sales for Star Wars movie -Rogue one, Walt Disney has officially become the first movie studio to gross $7billion at the global box office in one year. The record was previously held by Universal Pictures, who raked in the sum of $6.89 billion in 2015, but Disney’s productions with Marvel and Pixar Animation put the movie studio ahead of Universal pictures,as Disney made $2.7 billion at the box office domestically and another $4.29 billion abroad from Jan. 1 to Dec. 18.

The movies that earned the highest for Disney in 2016 include “Captain America: Civil War” and “Finding Dory,” bringing in $1.15 billion and $1.028 billion worldwide respectively. While the other three movies that raked in enough earnings are “Zootopia,” “Jungle Book” and “Doctor Strange.”X Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement on Tuesday:

The reason Cristiano Ronaldo refuses to wear plain black football boots

Real Madrid's and Portugal's highest goalscorer of all time, C. Ronaldo prefers to wear white or multi colored boots and he has his own peculiar reason for doing that. Even sportswear giants, Nike, who have reportedly endorsed Cristiano Ronaldo for life, are aware that the player is not a fan of black boots and have revealed why.  Speaking to Goal USA, Max Blau, Nike's vice-president, claimed Ronaldo hated black boots as they make him feel slow.

Married couples in Italy might not have to pledge to be faithful...if a new bill is approved

If a bill which was presented to the Italian Senate last year is approved, married couples in the country will no longer have to promise to be faithful to each other.

The proposed amendment to Italy's Civil Code would remove the word "fidelity" from Italian marriage contracts.


 According to the senators who have signed the bill, the promise not to cheat is a "cultural legacy from an outdated and obsolete vision of marriage, family, and the rights and duties of spouses"
They cited a previous ruling from Italy's top court, which declared that judges could not legally place the blame for a marriage separation "on the mere failure to observe the duty of fidelity".

Instead, the other party has to prove that their spouse's infidelity led to the irreconcilable breakdown of the marriage.

The bill which has now been passed to its Judiciary Committee, goes on to argue that there is an element of sexism in the current wording. It was originally included to refer to the woman's sexual fidelity, in order to determine whether children were "legitimate", they noted. 

"Until not long ago, only the fidelity of the woman was sufficient to guarantee the 'legitimacy' of children,  the bill notes, saying that since the "hateful" legal distinction between "legitimate" and "natural" children was scrapped in a 2012 ruling, there is no longer a need for the clause.

The senators assert that fidelity should not be thought of only in sexual terms, but also in terms of "trust and respect", and that while it was an "important value", it should not be up to the State to impose it by law.
  
References to fidelity and faithfulness were removed from Italy's civil unions bill which was passed earlier this year - a change which provoked outcry from some of the LGBT community, who saw this as a failure to acknowledge the parity of same-sex and opposite-sex romantic relationships.
Instead, that bill simply refers to "moral and material support" and "cohabitation".

Laura Cantini, one of the senators arguing for the fidelity clause to be dropped from heterosexual marriage, said that the wording of the civil unions bill is "a much more advanced model".

Alex Iwobi makes startling confession about Arsenal's loss to Man City

 Super Eagles of Nigeria and Arsenal FC of England star, Alex Iwobi has revealed the reason why Arsenal lost to premier league title rivals Man City on Sunday evening.

Arsenal scored through Theo Walcott in the 5th minute, but left the Etihad stadium with no points after goals from Sane and Raheem Sterling ensured Pep Guardiola's men kept their title ambitions on the right path.

 According to Iwobi, Arsenal simply stopped playing after half time, leading an city to punish them on the break.

“I guess you could say we took our foot off the gas,” A sad and heartbroken Iwobi told Arsenal's official club website.  Man City took advantage very well in the second half. We were up against a tough side, we were just unfortunate to not keep the win. 

“We started off very well but we weren’t able to keep it up in the second half and we were very unfortunate.We’re gonna keep on going, fight until the end and see where we go,” he continued.

“We’ll just have to continue how we were playing at the start of the season.

Neymar reveals the reason behind his successful relationship with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez

Barcelona football star Neymar Jr has revealed the spectacular reasons behind his burgeoning relationship with his fellow star players Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both on and off the pitch.

The trio tagged 'MSN' scored 131 goals between them last season -- nine better than the 122 goals scored the previous season and Neymar while reserving special praise for Lionel Messi, attributed their success to care, respect, friendship and happiness.

Speaking to CNN, Neymar said: 

"Training together every day, helping one another on the pitch -- we're making history and I hope it can continue for many more years. We have a great friendship. 

The only difference is three footballers, three star footballers in their respective countries, are here together at Barcelona.

"It's difficult for this to happen ... three South Americans. It's something that we've changed. I have a nice story about Messi," Neymar said. 

"Soon after I arrived, it wasn't a great moment in my career and he was the one who helped me. He saw that I was sad, with my head down, that things weren't going right for me. When Neymar was asked between Messi, Neymar and Suarez or Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale who had the most fearsome attack, Neymar was wary of writing off the competition.

"They are star footballers who are respected, Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or four times and Bale is having a great season. Benzema is a great striker who I think is a superstar. It's a good battle, a healthy battle which we have in the Clásico."

Soulja Boy arrested in Los Angeles for gun probation violation

Soulja Boy has been arrested by Los Angeles police on a suspected probation violation after they found a firearm in his Hollywood Hills home on Thursday. Soulja boy and Quavo have been beefing online for a while and on Dec5th, Soulja boy made verbal threats to Quavo by showing his guns and telling Quavo to come to his house and get effed up.

Officer Sal Ramirez who arrested Soulja Boy aka DeAndre Cortez Way, said he was arrested around 7 a.m. Thursday after a search of the home.

Soulja Boy had been sentenced to two years of probation on Dec. 18, 2014, after being convicted of carrying a loaded firearm in a public place."  Watch his beef song to Quavo below:

Only Son of China's richest man says he is not interested in inheriting his father’s $122bn business empire

China's Richest man says he is in search of an heir to his $122 billion empire as his 28 year old only son has refused to take over his business, saying he does not want to live a life like that of his father.

Wang Jianlin, founder and chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, said his only son, Wang Sicong, doesn’t want to take over his shopping centres, hotels, theme parks and sports clubs.

Speaking at an entrepreneural summit in China over the weekend, Wang said

‘I have asked my son about the succession plan, and he said he does not want to live a life like mine. Perhaps young people have their own quests and priorities. Probably it will be better to hand over to professional managers and have us sit on the board and see them run the company,’ Wang said.

According to South China Morning Post, Wang Sicong is a director at his father's empire, with a 2 per cent stake. He founded Prometheus Capital in 2011 and has made investments in Invictus Gaming, Dining Concepts Holdings.

In May last year, Sicong made headline news after he bought two Apple Watches for his dog, called Wang Keke, who wears them both on his front legs. The pictures when shared online, caused an outcry from many Chinese.

Apple Watch sells between £820 and £1,300 in China. The son went to school in Britain and studied philosophy at the University College London. More than 80 per cent of Chinese heirs have shown no interest in inheriting their parents businesses, according to a survey by Shanghai Jiaotong University, covering 182 of the country’s top family-run companies.

According to the survey, some of them were backing off due to intense pressures, while others simply were pursuing other career interests, another study by an association of private enterprises in the mainland showed.

Speaking after scooping his fourth Golden Ball, Cristiano Ronaldo revealed he has always considered himself the best player, he also paid tribute to his teammates and everyone who helped him get this far.

Ex-boyfriend of dethroned Miss World Kenya to pay her KSh1 million for leaking her nude photos

Dethroned Miss World Kenya 2016 Roshanara Ebrahim will receive KSh1 million in damages from her ex-boyfriend, Frank Zahiten, who leaked her nude photos which resulted in Roshanara being decrowned. See previous post here


The High Court on Tuesday, heard that Mr Zahiten, the third respondent in the case petition number 361 of 2016, leaked the photos, which were taken between 2013 and 2015, when the two were lovers to Ms Ashleys Kenya CEO Terry Mungai in April 2015.

 Mr Zahiten, a private citizen, defended himself, saying the photos were taken in March, 2016 but the court dismissed his submission, saying that it was highly probable that the nude photos were leaked in April 2015 when Ms Roshanara’s phone was stolen.

The 3rd Respondent (Frank Zahiten) had by his close relationship as a boy-friend of the petitioner accessed the petitioner’s photographs, and may indeed have taken some of them, but he had no authority to publish the private photographs.

"In forwarding the private photographs of the petitioner to the 2nd respondent (Terry Mungai), the 3rd respondent had violated the petitioner’s right to privacy of information under Article 31 (c) of the Constitution, and the petitioner is entitled to compensation in damages.

"The petitioner did not adduce evidence sufficient for the court to assess the damages for the breach of the petitioner’s right to privacy.  Accordingly, the Court will award modest damages for the breach of the right to privacy in the sum of Ksh.1,000,000/- against the 3rd respondent (Frank Zahiten),” read the High Court’s ruling issued on Friday, December 9.

The High Court however observed that Roshanara Ebrahim was lawfully dethroned as Miss World Kenya 2016 following the leaking of her nude photos, citing breach of entry requirements for candidates interested in contesting for Miss World crown.

"Entry rules for the national contestants as shown in the Entry Agreement for the global Miss World event 2016 stipulate that the winner must warrant under Schedule D (o) (ii) to Miss World Limited.

"That she has never permitted any offensive, indecent, immoral or nude or semi-nude photographs of her to be taken. This provision would appear to disqualify the petitioner irrespective of who took the nude photographs.”

Ms Roshanara won’t be compensated by Miss World Kenya franchise holder Ashleys Kenya Limited following the July, 2016 dethronement, the High Court ruled.

Roshanara’s crown was inherited by Evelyne Njambi in August, 2016, who was the first runner-up in the national beauty contest. She will represent Kenya in the 2016 Miss World competition which will be held on December 18 at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Washington D.C.

U.K Nurse sacked for discussing Christianity & offering to pray with patients before operations

Sister Sarah Kuteh, a nurse with 15 years’ experience was sacked for discussing Christianity and offering to pray with patients before their operations. Kuteh, who's a mother-of-three, was dismissed for breaching guidelines, even though her job involved asking people preparing for surgery about their religion.


Recalling how she was suspended and escorted from Darent Valley hospital in Dartford, Kent, Kuteh said: ‘It was embarrassing for me – and painful after all I had done in my years as a nurse. I was told I couldn’t even speak to my colleagues. All I had done was to nurse from my heart. How could it be harmful to tell someone about Jesus?’

She admitted she may have spoken to a few patients without their express permission when she first began the job, but was more careful after a warning in April 2016 that there had been complaints. In June, She was ‘shocked’ when they told her that three further complaints had been made, after which she was told to stop assessing patients and was suspended a few days later. She was sacked in August after an investigation, and her appeal rejected.

The bosses at Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust however insist that her discussions were unwanted and this had upset patients. They also claim that Kuteh failed to heed warnings that she was being unprofessional.

She is now suing the hospital for unfair dismissal, describing her sacking as ‘disproportionate and punitive’.
