Anthony Joshua hangs out with his 'favourite footballer', Cristiano Ronaldo in Dubai

World heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua has often described Cristiano Ronaldo as his favourite footballer and finally the duo met up following Ronaldo's night of success after he was crowned Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards in United Arab Emirates.

Both men are regarded as arguably the best in their respective sports and they are currently enjoying in Duba,  in a bid to escape the chilly winter conditions of England and Italy.

Here's a list of the highest grossing movies of 2018 and how much they made

Movies like Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and more were on the lips of every movie lover and trended across social media platforms. They also sold out in cinemas across the world.

Needless to say, the battle for the highest grossing movies for the year 2018 was tough.

Below is a list of the 10 movies that earned the most in 2018.

1. AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR:

Avengers: Infinity war edged out other movies released in 2018 to become the highest-grossing movie of the year.

The movie, which was the beginning of the culmination of 10 years of MCU storylines, earned $2.05 billion world wide.

2. BLACK PANTHER:

Following behind Avengers: Infinity wars is the much talked about Black Panther.

The superhero movie set in a fictional African country named Wakanda was created by Marvel Comics.

Black Panther made $1.35 billion making it the second highest grossing movie of 2018.

3. JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM :

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which is the sequel to 2015's original Jurassic World film, made a massive $1.30 billion worldwide.

4. INCREDIBLES 2 ($1.24 BILLION):

Pixar's beloved superhero comedy The Incredibles had a sequel released in 2018 after a nearly 15-year wait. 

Incredibles 2 outperformed expectations to earn $1,24 billion worldwide, vastly outdoing The Incredibles which had a total gross of $633 million.

5. VENOM:

A solo Venom movie that wasn't in anyway connected to Spiderman had people in doubt as to its level of success but Venom blew past the record for biggest October opening of all time.

The film directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Tom Hardy  made well over $855 million worldwide,

6. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FALLOUT:

The Mission: Impossible franchise has always been known to record success and Mission: Impossible - Fallout was no different.

Tom Cruise's insane stunts propelled the movie to box office heights and it earned $791 milion in 2018.

7. AQUAMAN:

Warner Bros. and DC Films' Aquaman, was one of the biggest box office surprises of 2018. Viewers have showered the movie with praise, quickly rocketing it up to nearly $748.8 million worldwide. Some projections have Aquaman reaching the $1 billion mark before leaving theaters.

8. DEADPOOL 2:

In 2016, the original Deadpool film was tremendously successful and it's sequal did just as well at the box office.

Deadpool 2 made $735.6 million worldwide.

9. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY:

Bohemian Rhapsody, which is a biopic of Queen and its iconic frontman Freddie Mercury, delighted audiences worldwide.

The movie was greatly criticized for changing around some key events in the band's history and Mercury's personal life, but moviegoears loved it.

Bohemian Rhapsody made $702.5 million and stands above all prior music biopics when it comes to total gross.

10: FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD:

Fantastic Beats 2, a Harry Potter franchise film, had unfavourable reviews but that didn't stop fans from trooping to theatres to watch it.

The Crimes of Grindelwald has earned over $627.5 million worldwide, even in spite of the ogoing issues surrounding actor Johnny Depp.

Cristiano Ronaldo named Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards ahead of Griezmann and Mbappe

Juventus striker, Cristiano Ronaldo was crowned Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards which took place at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai on Thursday night.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was named ahead of French footballers Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann to pick up the award for the fifth time. 

The Portuguese footballer who attended the event with fiancee Georgina Rodriguez and son CristianoJunior, said: 'What better way to start the new year. Thanks for the appreciation and the care that I have received today.'

Other winners were Best Coach of the Year Didier Deschamps and Brazilian legend Ronaldo, who received a Player Career Award.

Salah, Mane and Aubameyang to battle for African player of the year award

Premier League strikers Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have been shortlisted for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) player of the year award.

This is the second year running the trio who are from Eygpt, Senegal and Gabon respectively have battled for the prestigious award. Egyptian striker Salah who plays for Liverpool alongside Mane won the award last year and could land the award again due to his impressive performance so far.

If he wins the award, he will become the fourth player to win back-to-back titles after Senegal forward El Hadji Diouf, Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure.

The winner for 2018 will be announced in Dakar on January 8.

Chelsea sign US footballer Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund for £58m

German football club, Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Christian Pulisic will join Chelsea for €64m (£58m), with the United States forward to be loaned back to the club until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who joined  Dortmund as a youth player in 2015 was linked with Liverpool and Arsenal. He has made 80 appearances for Dortmund and 23 for the US.

Confirming the move to Chelsea, BVB’s sporting director, Michael Zorc said: “It was always Christian’s dream to play in the Premier League. That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract. Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.

“Christian Pulisic is a character perfect player. I am sure that in the coming months he will do everything in his power to bring his high quality to the team and to achieve his sporting goals with his teammates at Borussia Dortmund.”

Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Pulisic said it was “a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club and I look forward to working hard towards being a contributor to their team of world class players”.

He later added in a statement: “[I am] looking forward to working with Maurizio Sarri and his technical team. But for the next six months, it’s all BVB! Please do not doubt my passion, determination and my 110% commitment to the tea, right until the last ball is kicked this season. We all feel that this is ‘our year’ and we are determined to achieve the best possible results in all competitions.”

The £58m fee for Pulisic is now the highest transfer fee for an American player, beating the 20m euros Wolfsburg paid for John Brooks in 2017.

Floyd Mayweather makes $9M in just two minutes after beating 20-year-old kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in exhibition bout

Undefeated American boxer, Floyd Mayweather has defeated his opponent, 20-year-old Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition bout which took place today in Tokyo, Japan.

The 41-year-old dropped his Japanese opponent three times in the opening round of what was planned for a three-round fight. Mayweather knocked him out in just two minutes to win the clash.

After the fight, Mayweather who initially pulled out of the fight due to a misunderstanding between himself and the organisers which was later resolved said: 'We are both still undefeated, I did this to entertain the fans in Japan, they wanted this to happen and I said why not, Tenshin is still a great champion, I am still retired. 

'Tenshin hold your head up high, I want the fans to support him, he's a great guy, a great fighter and great champion. 

'Tokyo Japan, RIZIN is number one. Thank you.'

The undefeated champion who has won 50 of all his fights was reportedly paid $9M to take part in the exhibition bout.

2019: Full text of President Buhari's New year message to Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has welcomed Nigerians into the year 2019. Buhari stated that the year 2019 will be significant for the country.

Dear compatriots,

It is my utmost pleasure to rejoice with all Nigerians as we enter the year 2019, which will be a very significant one for our country.

2. At the turn of every year, we often use the opportunity to look back at the past and forward to the future. To review the outgoing year, its high and low points, successes and failures, and be fully thankful to God.

3. We Nigerians are a religious people, and we believe that God reigns and rules in the affairs of men. A time like this offers precious opportunity for thanksgiving, stock taking and reflection on goals and targets set for the receding year, and how much was accomplished. The ones not done can then be rolled over into a new year.

4. The dawn of a New Year is also a time to look forward. To consider new prospects, unfold our plans, and prepare for landmark dates and events.

5. 2019 will be an election year for us. In about two months, the polls are due, and we will elect leaders into various offices, at national and state levels.

6. As I welcome you into 2019, I also reiterate my many promises and declarations that the general elections will be free, fair and credible.

7. Elections need not be do or die affair, and we should not approach that eventuality in a democracy with trepidation and mortal fear. Happily, a large number of presidential candidates have committed to peace, and peace we shall have.

8. Those who continue to trumpet falsehood and negativity are on their own, fighting a losing battle. The greater number of Nigerians are trusting and believing that we shall deliver on our promises for a level playing field at the polls, and that is what we shall do.

9. Nigerians desire peace, security, prosperity, inclusiveness and infrastructural development, a nation they can be proud of, a country that can hold its own among the nations.

10. That is the journey we have embarked on since we came onboard in 2015, and we are not distracted as we move on. We are resolved to build a country in which the resources are utilized for the benefit of the largest number, and not appropriated by a privileged few in their never ending quest to satisfy their greed. We are on this mission together, and I assure you of a firm commitment to the ideals of a safe, secure, fair, just and prosperous country.

11. We have had our challenges: security, economic, political, social. But we are resolved to combat and overcome them all.

12. I appreciate your support and collaboration in previous years, and look forward to same in 2019, and beyond, as I hope you will renew the mandate you overwhelmingly gave us in 2015, for another term.

13. We are motivated by nothing other than service to motherland, and service without selfishness or personal interest.

14. I can assure you all that we are making steady and sustainable progress in all areas of national life. Those who are unbiased can see and appreciate the progress the country has made since 2015.

14. A New Year provides opportunity for renewal of commitment, and I invite you to rededicate yourselves to the vision of a Nigeria that works for all.

15. We are moving from potentials to actualization, and it's a task to be accomplished by us all; man, woman, young, old, military, civilian, all Nigerians.
